Bollywood music composer Pritam speaks out on the controversy regarding similarities between Jennie’s ‘like JENNIE’ and ‘Rani’s Intro Theme’ from the Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

On March 4, 2025, Jennie dropped the teaser for her much-awaited title song ‘like JENNIE’ from her debut album ‘Ruby.’ Bollywood buffs immediately accused the track of ripping off the song’s beats and the chanting of the word “Jennie” from ‘Rani’s Intro Theme’ from ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.’

On social media in particular, an online fight erupted between Jennie and Alia Bhatt’s (referenced in whom ‘Rani’s Intro Theme’ is picturized) fans. As the conversations reached a higher pitch, the composer of the original song also weighed in to offer some clarification.

On March 7, Pritam, the music composer of ‘Rani’s Intro Theme,’ issued a clarification regarding the ongoing debate. In an Instagram post, Pritam wrote, “Rani and Jennie are names that rhyme, so a similar flow in one phrase doesn’t make it a copy. In music, minor similarities are bound to happen- whether through rhymes, phrasing, or even within the same genre. Instead of focusing on tiny details, it’s important to see the bigger picture. In today’s interconnected world, where artists share the same platforms, no one is deliberately trying to copy someone else’s work. Creating a song takes immense effort, and if an artist truly resonates with an idea, they can simply collaborate. Music is about creativity, unique artistic perspective, influence, and sometimes pure coincidence- especially when artists exist on the same creative wavelength.
